Multilingual OCR?

Postby droid scan dev » Mon May 23, 2011 11:41 am

Q:

I am using Droid Scan Pro to scan documents in (Russian / Hebrew / Arabic ...) Can I upload them to Google Docs and perform optical character recognition (OCR) ?

A:

Droid Scan will upload your document and request the OCR service from Google. As of this writing, Google Docs OCR does not support languages that use non-Latin alphabets. As long as your document uses a Latin alphabet, the OCR will work and you can optionally use Google Docs translation tools to convert it to a language of your choice.

At the very least you will have an archival PDF version of your document that can be used with OCR when and if that feature becomes available for your language of choice.
